Spring/summer sewing plans

Spring finally appears to have sprung - hoorah! I can walk round in a cardigan instead of a coat, sunglasses are required and socks have almost (but not quite) been discarded. Time to sew some summer clothes! So, in no particular order, here's what I'm planning:

A sundress, using this fabric...
Vintage barkcloth
...and this pattern - New Look 6457 - although I'm undecided about the bodice shape, probably A or E.

A shirt dress, using this fabric, which is the same viscose print I used for my Pussy Bow Blouse, just in the black colourway. I bought the fabric a while ago from Fabric Godmother so it's not longer in stock, but there are lots of other gorgeous viscose prints in stock here.

I really like the idea of a shirt dress with princess seams and the new Butterick 6333 looks like a good match.

I'm also keen to use the two vintage chambrays I picked up at the Handmade Fair last year (they're under the yellow gingham in this picture).

The green one would look good as a top (perhaps the Clara Bow blouse?) and the pink one a simple summer skirt, probably Simplicity 2451.  The yellow gingham will be turned into one of the vintage tops from this pattern. Currently I'm leaning towards the tie front top on the left, any preferences?

Realistically, this is all I'll have time to sew this summer, so I'm planning to take my time and really enjoy the process. Can't wait! What's on your summer sewing list? x

  5. Love that opening fabric. I'm tempted by a shirt dress too this Summer, but think it will be a while before the sun hits Manchester...

    1. As a fellow northerner I have to agree, it always takes ages for warmer weather to filter northwards! I love shirt dresses, you should give one a go this summer. x

  7. Great choices, I have a shirt dress in mind too but I'm thinking a denim look with a bright trim. I also need to do more tops and casual stuff as these are the items I am lacking for weekends etc. I would also quite like to do a raincoat/jacket but have no idea what colour to go for. Workday stuff is pretty much sorted. xx

  10. Oooh, how lovely Jane! Are the daffodils well & truly out yet? I ADORE the British Spring!
Whilst the wrap top IS very lovely, I think you should add JUST ONE MORE project to your list & also make the top on the right. It is adorable! YAY!

  12. I Love your ideas for summer, I particularly like the tie vintage top and can't wait to see how it turns out. I'm just flicking through my patterns deciding what to make for the summer. I was in the middle of making a long sleeved blouse but I think I might shorten the sleeves and make it my first summer make instead.

  13. Ooh, loving that barkcloth. It will make a gorgeous sundress. We have two family weddings this summer so outfits for those are my priority. I probably should have started by now!

    1. I'm lucky, I haven't been to any weddings for over five years, so no deadline sewing for me! I do have the Big vintage Sewalong dress still to make though....! x

  14. The tie front looks lovely (do not forget the hat though!), although the other would be cooler if we get a hot summer that is.

  15. I like the black viscose print. I want to make a dress in viscose this summer. I'm currently making a viscose jersey dress in a solid.
