The Polished Button summer giveaway and discount code

School's (almost) out for summer and the sun is SHINING, so what better way to celebrate than with a giveaway! I've teamed up with The Polished Button to offer you a lovely hand picked treat to kick start your summer. The Polished Button is run by Ruth, a former costume designer and vintage clothing dealer who has put together a small, but perfectly formed selection of vintage inspired sewing goodies on her website. The idea is to offer a 'one stop shop' for sewers including authentic and retro style fabrics, vintage and retro patterns (including a great selection of 1970's sundresses) and haberdashery all in one place.

It was a tough job choosing items for the giveaway as there are some lovely pieces in stock, but somebody had to do it! These fabrics caught my eye…

1950's floral barkcloth

Red and white floral striped cotton with lace trim

Nautical print polycotton

…as did these darling 1930's floral buttons….

But you all know I have a weak spot for a cherry print, or indeed anything cherry inspired, so in the end I settled for this crisp, summery cherry print fabric.

Ruth is very generously offering one winner a metre of the cherry print fabric, along with a metre of this lovely cherry bias binding.

To enter the giveaway all you have to do is take a look at The Polished Button website and leave a comment on this post telling me what your favourite product is.  The giveaway is open internationally and closes at midnight GMT on Sunday 28th July. The winner will be chosen at random.

But that's not all, if you're not lucky enough to be the winner, don't despair! Readers of my blog can still claim a 10% discount on all purchases from The Polished Button. Hoorah! Just enter the code Jane10 when checking out of the site. The 10% discount code is valid until the end of August.

Thank you so much to Ruth from The Polished Button for offering this awesome giveaway. Good luck everybody!

  2. Dear Jane, most of these fabrics are wonderful, I guess you could just anyone for (vintage) sewing projects! I love the cherry print too, and currently I have a weakness for all "nautival-themed" supplies, so there can never be enough fabrics and buttons and trims with anchors etc. But one of my favorites is the blue strawberry print poplin. This would make a lovely sundress for a girl or a woman.

Sunny regards from very hot Switzerland, Doris

  3. What lovely fabrics that she has, I can see why you would have a hard time choosing one. My favorite is the 50s barkcloth, though all of those small floral prints would make lovely dresses (I think I need a shirt waist in each lol).
The cherry print you chose is lovely too. It would make a really cute halter neck ( I am on a halter neck kick right now, probably due to the heat). And that bias tape, oh my. I could use that on just about anything :)

  10. I love the Silk Feel Purple Geometric Print Polyester - it has a sort of "Art Deco meets the 1970's" feel :) I would make it into a tunic style top and would obviously need the Vintage 1930′s Purple Mother of Pearl Buttons to go down the back!

  21. I love the nautical fabric and the Liberty covered buttons but I really love the 1930's buttons. jennylarking@gmail.com I don't know if she would like feedback on her site but I did find it a bit slow because there were so few buttons on each page and 24 pages is a lot of scrolling.

  24. I have always loved the cherry print. My Grandmother and my Mother both had tablecloths out of a cherry print and it brings back some great memories. I have an apron that was my grandmothers and she used scraps of fabric from her tablecloth to make pockets on the apron. I am saving it to give to my Granddaughter when the day comes.

Thanks for a great giveaway and for the walk down memory lane.

  25. Brilliant giveaway Jane. I've saved the website. I'm in love with almost all the fabrics and I'm itching to get my sweaty paws (well it's hot here) on a couple of metres of the grey and pink rose patterned cotton. It's just gorgeous!!!! Back off there now to make a shopping list. Thanks for the 10% code too!!

Thanks for bringing it to our attention xx My favourite fabric is the Green & Pink Floral Print Cotton, 'cos there's just not enough green fabric out there these days - also I love the 1940's green Bakelite buttons, which remind me of the photos of my mum's dresses during the war - I have inherited her collection of buttons which span the centuries from the late 1800s to the present day! Thank you so much for the giveaway x

I was also super excited to see the 80's Style 2986 blouse which I have made up from a pattern I found in an op shop and totally love! I've never seen it anywhere else and can 100% recommend it as a very easy beginner blouse pattern - I've written about it at my blog http://fabrictragic.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-bel-blouse-style-2986.html

But...I love florals and pink roses on gray background isn't something seen everyday so I'm going to go with that. I believe it's on page 2 of the vintage fabrics. Beautiful collection of my favorite fabrics and I think I'll visit the shop lots (even though I'm in the U.S.).
