Olympic fever - and giveaway winner!

There hasn't been much sewing happening around these parts for a few weeks. Partly because we're all obsessed with the Olympics (I've loved every minute of it so far) and partly because both children are at home for the summer holidays.  Two boys + mum out of the room for long periods of time = house trashed and entire contents of fridge eaten. Therefore no sewing.  It's quite frustrating, especially as I've got lots of things whizzing around my head that need to be sewn.  But hey, they're young dudes and the Olympics are in our home city so let's have some fun! Here are a few highlights from the past week:

Pipped to the post for an Olympic gold by Louis...

At the Olympic Park.... aren't the flowers lovely?

Also at the park, a giant reflective RUN sculpture....

Today we visited Sacrilege: Jeremy Deller's amazing giant-sized replica of Stonehenge in bouncy castle form...

Two of my menfolk - the other one was bouncing around like a loony

Yesterday, the rest of the family wanted to visit the seaside and I helpfully suggested Whitstable, as it just happened to be the same day as the Seaside Brocante Vintage Fair. What an amazing coincidence.  Whilst the boys were busy on the beach, I hot footed it up the High Street and managed to bag two pieces of vintage fabric, a lovely little sugar bowl and these tiny red tins. Have you ever seen anything more destined to be mine?

Red polka dot mini tins - MINE!
But the best bit was definitely when one of the stall holders, the lovely Hannah from Anchors Aweigh Vintage, said the immortal words, "are you Jane? I read your blog"!!!!!! How flattering and awesome is that?  Apparently she recognised my Ginger skirt!  Thank you Hannah, you absolutely made my day.

Enough chit-chat, we need to talk giveaways. A huge thank you to everybody who entered the giveaway for the Abbey Coat pattern and for your buttonhole feedback. You'll all be pleased to know I'm plumping for bound buttonholes (gulp). The resounding encouragement from all my blog readers definitely helped tip the balance - thank you! Anyway, back to the giveaway, the winner is.....Claire Cooper from Ragbags and Gladrags. Wahay! Congratulations Claire, please e-mail me your address and I'll see you get the pattern as soon as possible.  Huge thanks to Annie at The Village Haberdashery for donating such a generous prize.

Right, I'm off to watch the athletics now - my throat's still sore from cheering Mo Farah to victory last night...x

  3. Jane, the Olympics have definitely distracted me from sewing...I never thought I'd get this into it. Even this weekend I thought I'd get some sewing done, but I can't tear myself away from the telly...it's great stuff!

Anyway, looks like you're getting some quality family time in, as well as a bit of vintage shopping ;o) And how amazing to be recognised due to your blog, it's such a cool thing to happen!!!

    1. We're very lucky with the bouncy castle, we never get anything coming to west London, it's just too suburban, so this was a real treat! x

  13. I just told my son that every time I sit down to sew I stop for a "peak" at the Olympics and there goes hours of my time. Hey, it's every four years and it's great to watch everyone giving it their best. Your pics were lovely to look at.

  16. I popped into the Broncsnte on Saturday as well and recognised Anchors Aweigh from the vintage fair at the Pantiles the previous week. Thanks for the link because I took a photo of her stall and forgot to ask for her shop name. When I get a moment I will add it. By the way love your blog and the style you like to sew.

  18. I was in love with the olympic wild flowers, I made my lot walk all around them for ages - glad you had a good time. We go to Whitstable quite often, I should be better at looking up things like vintage fairs though as I've never been when something like that was on. Nice buys. Bethx
