School's (almost) out for summer and the sun is SHINING, so what better way to celebrate than with a giveaway! I've teamed up with The Polished Button to offer you a lovely hand picked treat to kick start your summer. The Polished Button is run by Ruth, a former costume designer and vintage clothing dealer who has put together a small, but perfectly formed selection of vintage inspired sewing goodies on her website. The idea is to offer a 'one stop shop' for sewers including authentic and retro style fabrics, vintage and retro patterns (including a great selection of 1970's sundresses) and haberdashery all in one place.
It was a tough job choosing items for the giveaway as there are some lovely pieces in stock, but somebody had to do it! These fabrics caught my eye…
1950's floral barkcloth |
Red and white floral striped cotton with lace trim |
Nautical print polycotton |
…as did these darling 1930's floral buttons….
But you all know I have a weak spot for a cherry print, or indeed anything cherry inspired, so in the end I settled for this crisp, summery cherry print fabric.
Ruth is very generously offering one winner a metre of the cherry print fabric, along with a metre of this lovely cherry bias binding.
To enter the giveaway all you have to do is take a look at The Polished Button website and leave a comment on this post telling me what your favourite product is. The giveaway is open internationally and closes at midnight GMT on Sunday 28th July. The winner will be chosen at random.
But that's not all, if you're not lucky enough to be the winner, don't despair! Readers of my blog can still claim a 10% discount on all purchases from The Polished Button. Hoorah! Just enter the code Jane10 when checking out of the site. The 10% discount code is valid until the end of August.
Thank you so much to Ruth from The Polished Button for offering this awesome giveaway. Good luck everybody!
Very nice selection!!! Love them all. Please consider my name for the giveaway! Carlalissa35@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI couldn't resist and purchase some haberdashery! LOL
DeleteDear Jane, most of these fabrics are wonderful, I guess you could just anyone for (vintage) sewing projects! I love the cherry print too, and currently I have a weakness for all "nautival-themed" supplies, so there can never be enough fabrics and buttons and trims with anchors etc. But one of my favorites is the blue strawberry print poplin. This would make a lovely sundress for a girl or a woman.
ReplyDeleteSunny regards from very hot Switzerland, Doris

What lovely fabrics that she has, I can see why you would have a hard time choosing one. My favorite is the 50s barkcloth, though all of those small floral prints would make lovely dresses (I think I need a shirt waist in each lol).
ReplyDeleteThe cherry print you chose is lovely too. It would make a really cute halter neck ( I am on a halter neck kick right now, probably due to the heat). And that bias tape, oh my. I could use that on just about anything :)
Wow, such a nice selection of fabrics and notions! cWell, I love floral prints, so I like this one here a lot. http://www.thepolishedbutton.co.uk/shop/vintage-1970s-floral-purple-black-crepe/
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity!
the 1950's floral barkcloth is soooo beautifull!
ReplyDeleteSunny regards from Vienna,

Oh my word, the red and white striped poplin/lace combo above is so lovely. I might have to treat myself (ahem, in truth more like my stash) to some of that. It is gorgeous. Thanks for telling us (me) about this company :-)
ReplyDeletei didn't know ruth sold fabric too! i love the barkcloth you mentioned (what is barkcloth?) and the strawberry print poplin. really lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this lovely giveaway! The red and white striped cotton with lace trim is my fave, thinking some scrumptious summer pjs.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun giveaway! I love the Pink Liberty Print Cotton Covered Buttons.
ReplyDeleteI love the Silk Feel Purple Geometric Print Polyester - it has a sort of "Art Deco meets the 1970's" feel :) I would make it into a tunic style top and would obviously need the Vintage 1930′s Purple Mother of Pearl Buttons to go down the back!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great shop! I love the red Liberty covered buttons!
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway! I love the black and white circle print cotton, or the black and red embroidered remnant...
ReplyDeleteLove the cherry bias binding, and might order some of the others I've just seen on the polished button website. You can never have too much bias binding!
ReplyDeleteI love the floral striped cotton (red and white) I have seen it before and thought how pretty this would be as a skirt. Thank you for reminding me of it!
ReplyDeletehttp://asaucystitch.blogspot.co.uk/
I really like the red white and blue seersucker. would look good as a Hawthorn
ReplyDeleteWell, I love the vintage 1940s green buttons, as I am a button lover. Thanks for the chance.....Anna H
ReplyDeleteI love the Red Floral Print Cotton Poplin, and the grey 'barkcloth' you chose, too (never heard of that before!). The cherry print is ace. I used that nautical print polycotton for a Sewaholic Pendrell recently!
ReplyDeleteHi Jane, Thanks for hosting this giveaway. I've been on their website and they've got a lot of lovely things, however I think my favourite has to be the Purple & Blue Geometric Print Peachskin fabric.
ReplyDeleteHello
ReplyDeleteI like the liberty covered green buttons best.
And your blog is lovely too.
Thank you
Claire
How fun! I love that purple and grey barkcloth cotton you have posted first.
ReplyDeleteI love the nautical fabric and the Liberty covered buttons but I really love the 1930's buttons. jennylarking@gmail.com I don't know if she would like feedback on her site but I did find it a bit slow because there were so few buttons on each page and 24 pages is a lot of scrolling.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenny! I have altered it to show double the amount of items per page now - hopefully not quite as overwhelming :-)
DeleteWhat a lovely giveaway thanks Jane! I do love the cherry print but also the Purple & Blue Geometric Print Peachskin. So pretty :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jane, I LOVE the barkcloth!
ReplyDeleteI have always loved the cherry print. My Grandmother and my Mother both had tablecloths out of a cherry print and it brings back some great memories. I have an apron that was my grandmothers and she used scraps of fabric from her tablecloth to make pockets on the apron. I am saving it to give to my Granddaughter when the day comes.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great giveaway and for the walk down memory lane.
Brilliant giveaway Jane. I've saved the website. I'm in love with almost all the fabrics and I'm itching to get my sweaty paws (well it's hot here) on a couple of metres of the grey and pink rose patterned cotton. It's just gorgeous!!!! Back off there now to make a shopping list. Thanks for the 10% code too!!
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm pretty much in love with all the fabric they sell. I'm definitely bookmarking this website! The first one that made me audibly go "OOOO!" was the vintage 1950s cream and blue floral. Just gorgeous! I would love to make some kind of wonderful dress out of that.
ReplyDeleteLovely selection of fabric. I like the floral prints particularly the blue rose and pink floral. The black and white circle print is really striking too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great fabric selection she has! I especially like the grey and pink rose print on cotton. Count me on on the giveaway... this is a fantastic one!!
ReplyDeleteOh Jane...you are so very naughty! ;-) I may have some of the red/stripe/lace in my basket already! I also love the black and white star gingham. I'll be following her blog going forwards. Thanks so much for sharing. And for this lovely giveaway.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely shop. It has to be the blue strawberry print cotton. My strawberries have failed miserably this year so will have to wear them to console myself...
ReplyDeleteThe florals are lovely, but I adore that nautical polycotton print! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI loved nearly all the fabrics especially some of the vintage remnants, but I love nautical styles the most, so it has to be the nautical polycotton.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win something in this great giveaway!
I love the blue and yellow poly cotton print fabric. What a lovely shop with many interesting things. I will have to visit again.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely shop. I love love love the cherry stuff you've picked out, and I also love the red and white fabric you showcased and the blue strawberry print poplin. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great shop, thank you so much for informing me! I simply love the fabrics but my favourite is the 70s blue floral polyester jersey! <3
ReplyDeleteI'm heavily enamored of white fabric with bright flowers on it these days so the Pink Floral Crepe has definitely caught my eye!

What a lovely site! I'm particularly addicted to the Liberty fabric covered buttons. I would happily use any of them!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thepolishedbutton.co.uk/shop/vintage-1950s-blue-cream-floral-crepe/ this is my fave! what an excellent prize too :-D
ReplyDeleteIt's such a hard choice - they are all so lovely - but I really love the blue strawberry print cotton poplin :) Thanks so much for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI just adore this site! Thanks for bringing it to our attention xx My favourite fabric is the Green & Pink Floral Print Cotton, 'cos there's just not enough green fabric out there these days - also I love the 1940's green Bakelite buttons, which remind me of the photos of my mum's dresses during the war - I have inherited her collection of buttons which span the centuries from the late 1800s to the present day! Thank you so much for the giveaway x
ReplyDeleteI just love the floral bias binding - it would be lovely round the neck of a plan Sobretto top (my current favourite make it in an evening pattern). But the buttons are great as well - spoilt for choice!
ReplyDeleteAll beautiful, but I can't get over that nautical print! Your choices show great taste! jennette.wilfong@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI've got my eye on the 70s floral black and purple crepe. It would make a great dress.
ReplyDeleteOMG, how gorgeous are all the stuff on the site. Ultimately I came down to two items. The first was Pink Floral Polyester Crepe and the second was Floral Stripe Brushed Cotton. I am picking the Pink Floral Polyester Crepe for the competition because I have a pattern that this fabric would be perfect for...keeping my fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteOh my, such a lovely shop - thank you! A difficult choice between dreamy vintage dress patterns and buttons, but the dear 1930s yellow floral buttons are a favourite!
ReplyDeleteSuch great things! I love the star black and white gingham! I was also super excited to see the 80's Style 2986 blouse which I have made up from a pattern I found in an op shop and totally love! I've never seen it anywhere else and can 100% recommend it as a very easy beginner blouse pattern - I've written about it at my blog http://fabrictragic.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-bel-blouse-style-2986.html
ReplyDeleteI am drooling over the blue strawberry print cotton poplin. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteSo many pretties! I think my favorite is the purple and turquoise jersey remnant from the 70s. It would be a great top!
ReplyDeleteOhh the fabrics are soo cute! My favourite one is the purpe geometric print one.. Please count me in on your giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI am such a sucker for floral striped cottons and she has such a beautiful variety. But, I loved the patchwork madras, too, and that beautiful bright blue jersey remnant.
ReplyDeleteBut...I love florals and pink roses on gray background isn't something seen everyday so I'm going to go with that. I believe it's on page 2 of the vintage fabrics. Beautiful collection of my favorite fabrics and I think I'll visit the shop lots (even though I'm in the U.S.).
I looked but have to admit that the cherry fabric you chose is my favourite, too, lol!
ReplyDeleteHad a lovely time rummaging through all the fabrics etc. Loved all the printed bias binding and covered buttons. Also the mother of pearl buckles were pretty but settled on the red and white floral cotton with lace trim. Thanks for letting us know about this site and still loving your blog!
ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway! I really like the Black & White Floral Print Crepe. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe cherry print is adorable yet it´s hard to choose among all the beautiful fabrics and buttons. Enjoy the summer
ReplyDeleteCount me in! Cherry print fabric wins by a short neck before blue strwaberry print poplin. PLUS the cherry bias tape, swoon, but to be honest, all the bias tapes are beautiful. Ah!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to be entered please, what a great shop. I love the barkcloth you showed above, in fact so much I just bought some!! Bethx
ReplyDeleteThat barkcloth is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe prices are all so cheap, I feel like I could actually afford a good load of fabric from here - and the red and white floral stripe cotton will be on my "to buy" list once I've been paid for sure, I LOVE it!
I'm in heaven! So much gorgeousness in one post. I love the barkcloth but my favourite has to be those darling buttons.
ReplyDeleteFloral Stripe Brushed Cotton - I am pretty sure I had a skirt in this when I was little! Great site - thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteReally I can only choose one? I'm going to have to narrow it down to the fabric (I've been searching for a site with great vintage-y fabric!) and go with the red and white floral stripe cotton with lace trim. Love your site btw!
